The 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 aims at becoming one of the most attractive automobiles in its class.
2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Exterior
In comparison to the Mustang GT, the Shelby comes with tweaked bushings and springs, wider front track and lower riding height. According to Ford, stiffness has been strengthened by an injection-molded carbon-fiber-composite grille surround and an optional lightweight strut-tower brace.
The new Mustang Shelby 2016 has aluminum front fenders with huge flares. The inner and outer fender venting extract air from the wheel and send it down the flanks. The front fascia inlets send air to the front brakes and to optional coolers for the transmission and engine oil. The front splitter is designed to improve downforce. The vehicle sits on 19” aluminum wheels.
Ford went for 2-piece iron rotors with aluminum hats.
The vehicle borrows a freshly developed rear-drive platform code-named S550, which features an independent rear suspension.
2016 Mustang GT500 Interior
The interior of the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is equipped with Recaro sport seats and a flat-bottom steering wheel. In order to cut down on strong glare, the instrument panel sports has had bright-work reduced.
Being a top model of Mustang’s lineup, 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be furnished with leather and suede gripper seats and should also be offered with some carbon fiber parts. The soft-touch carpet and ambient lighting make the Shelby GT 500 look like a supreme luxury muscle car. This means a lot, since hardly any car from this class is able to boast with luxury interior like this one.
The Tech Pack is an optional component that includes power seat adjustment and leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, upgraded 12-speaker Shaker Pro audio system, navigation, Bluetooth streaming, and the 8” MyFord Touch infotainment screen.
2016 Mustang Engine and performance
The redesigned Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500’s powertrain includes an American version of a flat-plane crankshaft 5.2-liter V8 engine which is, according to Ford, the most powerful naturally aspirated engine they have ever produced. The output of this engine is still unknown, but rumor has it that it will be something about 500 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. Although it is possible variant with a 5.8-liter V-8 supercharged Trinity engine with 662 hp and 631 lb-ft of torque.
An estimated 0-60 mph acceleration for a new Ford beast is about 3.5 seconds, while top speed is over 185 mph.
The only transmission option is a 6-speed manual one. Output is then routed to a standard-equipment Torsen limited-slip differential. A diff cooler is optional, and it feeds on airflow directed from the rear diffuser.
