When it first debuted in 2008, the Ford Flex caused quite a stir. The 7-seater Flex captured the hearts of many buyers looking for a spacious family SUV at a reasonable price. On its launch, the Flex’s sweeping flat-roofed vehicle helped fill the gap that Ford had in its lineup of people haulers after the company discontinued the Freestar minivan.
However, the Ford Flex fortunes quickly dwindled prompting the automaker to carry out an extensive facelift in 2013. Nonetheless, the facelift failed to reignite the vehicle’s lost spark. Now, not giving up, it is rumored that Ford has decided to hook up the vehicle with fresh changes in a bid to revive its fortunes.
The new 2017 Ford Flex is set to feature a more stylish exterior, interior and a powerful engine to entice new customers and retain current ones. Read along to find what rumor mongers are saying about this Ford SUV;
2017 Ford Flex Exterior
Ford is believed to have added extensive modern touches to the exterior profile of the upcoming Ford Flex. The large SUV will be based on the Ford D4 platform.
The 5-door SUV will have a lighter body compared to the predecessor model. This is as a result of use of lightweight materials on its structure and body materials. According to these rumors, the overall design steps out of the previous version’s design language.
The new model will be bigger and more desirable but will maintain its boxy body shape. Ford Flex enthusiasts should expect a redesigned front fascia which features a modified bumper and a redesigned chromed grille which is flanked by LED headlights with chrome surrounds. At the back, the Ford Flex will feature LED taillights and a redesigned bumper.
2017 Ford Flex Interior
Switching gear to the cabin styling, customers will find even a roomier cabin than that of the current model. Its cabin styling has been upgraded to rival higher-end automobiles. Its styling features a good combination of class, convenience and comfort. The seats will be trimmed in quality leather while rich fabrics will cover the rest of the cabin.
The model will feature an updated infotainment system with a large touch-screen. The system will integrate features such as Bluetooth connectivity and navigation system among others. There will also be another 4.2-inch touch-screen mounted on the cockpit to display other information of the vehicle. For entertainment, the 2017 Ford Flex will feature a 12-speaker Sony sound system.
The rumors go on to allege that the cabin will be equipped with an impressive array of safety features including ABS, traction and stability control, forward collision warning, blind sport monitoring and a package of 6 airbags. Higher trims will feature additional features such as parking sensors and a rearview camera.

Engine Specs and performance
According to the rumors, the Flex will have an improved engine that offers a better performance and improved fuel efficiency. The 2017 Ford Flex will feature two power-trains.
The base engine will be a 3.5 L, V-6 which is capable of producing 287 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque. In terms of fuel economy, the engine is expected to deliver 18 mpg in city and 25 mpg on highway drives.
Top trims will be fitted with a more potent engine. This engine is believed to be still a 3.5 L, V-6. However the engine will be boosted by twin-turbochargers that help it to pump out 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. This engine is expected to return a fuel economy of 16 mpg in city and 23 mpg on highway drives.
The engines will be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission system that sends power to the Front wheels or all wheels. However, there are some rumors claiming that the 6-speeed transmission will be replaced by a new 9-speed automatic system.
Price and release date
The rumors don’t stop there, the rumor mongers go ahead to claim that the model will be available for sale in the first quarter of 2017. According to those rumors, a base 2017 Ford Flex will have a price tag of between $ 30,000 and $ 38,000.
If anyone at Ford reads this, PLEASE make the multicontour seats available. I have had 2 Tauruses with them…. the Flex deserves them… partly because a flex MSRP can easily exceed that of Taurus. … Price the seats the same as on Taurus..
The seats provide a wonderful massage on any length drive…
I have seen the 2017 dealer sheet. It looks like the only major changes are 1. SYNC replaces My Touch 2. You CANNOT purchase console for 40/40 rear seats. The rest will be cosmetic changes. Once again Ford treats the FLEX with utter disdain. None on dealer lots and zero advertising.
jeff.
I have a 2015 flex, I love it, it is quiet, very well built, I think for should advertise it more. can’t find them on the lots.
I have owned a 2012 Flex that I love for four years now and just received an email from the local Ford dealer advertising their SUVs. As usual the Flex isn’t mentioned even though it is sister to the Explorer. If Ford is disappointed in the sales numbers of their most under advertised model, they have no one to blame but themselves.
I love my 2011 which we ordered from the factory. I’m ordering a2017 before Ford makes another mistake to discontinue this great car.
Ford should make a smaller version same body style -love the body style and try to get better on the fuel economy and offer an option of two tone seat colors. That really would make the interior stand out and go with the exterior design.
I own a 2011 Flex with AWD which I love. My one complaint is the headlights. Very poor lights especially when on low beam!!
i have 2014 with HID lights. They are awesome, so bright and strong.
We LOVE LOVE our 2010 Flex which we purchased in 2010. Everywhere we go people ask us how we like our Flex, and we tell them how much we love. Each of those persons say they are looking to buy one. Why dont you advertsr this wonderful vehicle. We are a tall family and this car is perfect. Also the back seat is easily accessible to install baby seats because the door are wide. Please dont stop making this vehicle. Its the perfect safe family vehicle.
Love the car, I’ve purchased 2 new. That God-Awful aluminum mess on the rear hatch keeps me from buying the upgrade. Please, make that ugly mess optional not mandatory.
We purchased a 2011 Flex SEl used and last fall traded up to 2014 Limited and I think that the Flex is one of the best SUVs Ford builds. The Road performance is outstanding and power with base V-6 is more than adequate. I stopped at a Ford dealer and asked if there would be a 2017 and he brought it up on Fords dealer site. Hope all is true and Ford starts promoting the Flex. Every Flex owner I have spoken to Loves the Flex.
Love my 2013 Flex. Bought it totally loaded with every option but a DVD system. Frustratingly, it seems Ford has no idea how to market the Flex, leaving me wondering if there will still be a Flex when I’m ready to buy my next new car.
It’s the only car I’ve ever owned where other people asked if I would give them a “tour” of the car. I’ve seen a few other families in my kids’ soccer league get their own over the past few years. It has an infectious appeal. It’s like the perfect mom-mobile that dads want to drive. My only complaint is I have no place to stash my purse when I have passengers (which is almost always).
We’ve had a tri-white 2010 Flex AWD Limited since 2011, and it’s hands-down been the best vehicle we’ve ever owned. Reliable, durable, roomy, reasonably economical & extremely functional – it simply just does everything well, and we still get a lot of requests from people curious about how we like it. The styling is unique, but we consider it ‘dorky-cool’ and it drives like a much more expensive vehicle than it actually is. I am stunned that Ford on one hand complains about poor sales, but puts zero advertising effort behind what is clearly one of their best vehicles ever made ( and I’ve had many Ford products). The 10:1 Explorer-to-Flex sales ratio would likely be cut in half if they only advertised it. Maybe it’s all about margins…..?
I am on my third Ford Flex I love that car easy to get in and out it’s roomy and comfortable. Was afraid it would discontinue the flex so I bought a 2015. It is the best mobile Ford ever made. I know I have owned many Squires.
