In 2004 at the North American Auto Show, Ford showcased a Bronco concept that left enthusiasts highly anticipating a production model to follow up later. 11 years later and there is no news from the automaker about the possibility of a Bronco except through rumors.
But as they say “where there’s smoke there’s fire”. However, in this age of internet and Photoshop, this could be “photo-shopped smoke”. Nowadays a rumor can be easily started through a wisely designed rendering which can be passed as a leaked model from the automaker. We hope this is not the case as a Bronco rendering has been doing rounds on the internet eliciting numerous reviews and discussions. Perhaps things would have been a little different and expectations a bit fizzled out had Ford replaced it with something close to what it used to be, but a 4-door Expedition, the automaker hugely disappointed its enthusiasts.
For 20 years after its discontinuation, the market has not seen any model come close to the features and personality that the Bronco stood for. But you might ask whether the market is even ready for a 2-door, all terrain SUV in this age?
Unfortunately, there has been no word from Ford, nonetheless read along to find what the rumors are saying about the Bronco.
2017 Ford Bronco Exterior
According to the rumors, the 2017 Ford Bronco will be based on the Ford Atlas Concept on which the F-150 Raptor is based. It will be made from lightweight materials such as high-strength steel and aluminum meaning it will be very durable and dependable as we remember it but very light compared to the last model produced.
The renderings doing round on the internet showcase a muscular looking 2-door SUV with some elegant touches. It includes a chromed grille, 2-pairs of rounded LED headlights similar to predecessor Broncos and fog lights for enhanced visibility.
There is not that much information as of now and immediately new information creeps up, we will be the first to let you know.
2017 Ford Bronco Interior
On matters interior styling, the Bronco will feature the latest technologies according to the rumors. Leather will be the standard upholstery material.
The cabin will be spacious enough to accommodate 5 passengers comfortably and still leave plenty of cargo space. Its dashboard is modernized and equipped with a large touch-screen that integrates a SAT-NAV and an infotainment system.
As you can see details on the Bronco are quite scanty and mostly mere speculations but immediately credible information comes up, we will let you know.
Engine Specs and performance
Under the hood, the rumors claim that the SUV will be offered in three engine variants. The base engine will be a 4.7 L, 6-cylinder power stroke unit good for 330 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque.
The second engine being touted will be a 5.0 L, 8-cylinder Coyote engine capable of producing 420 hp.
The most potent engine will be a 5.8 L, 8-cylinder unit that pumps 662 hp and 632 lb-ft of torque. This is the engine powering the Shelby GT500. In terms of transmission, the base engine will be paired to a 6R140, 6-speed automatic transmission system while the more potent engines will be mated to a ZT-6 transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission system.
Price and Release date
If for a minute, the rumors come true, then you will get your Bronco at a price close to that of the Ford Raptor SVT F-150.
A simple search on the internet will reveal the extent of the rumors with some claiming a Bronco concept will be unveiled in 2016, others claiming a 2017 production model but as at now all are just that, rumors.
There are also rumors that the UAW (United Auto Workers) confirmed the production of the new Bronco as a model for 2019, called 2020 Ford Bronco.
Whether there is any truth in them or not, one thing which is sure, the discussion will not cease and the rumors will continue until Ford comes out and makes an official announcement.
Even if the rumors are true, it sounds like the new Bronco will be a suburban street vehicle that happens to have 4WD so that the ladies will think they can handle the winter weather better. What we want it a Bronco that feels at home in the dirt, not in the driveway behind the picket fence. Leather seats on an off-road vehicle? How sweet. Infotainment system? For wusses who drive highways, or something for mom to do between yoga and picking up the kids. About the cost of a Raptor SVT F-150? Yeah, no thanks. At $60 for a used Raptor SVT, no one’s going to buy the new Bronco. Wake up Ford. We want a basic off-road workhorse beast, where we won’t cry when we get mud on the interior. Not Cinderella’s carriage.
Pete, it wont be street its to high and those tires and tread are all terrain mainly offroad tires it wont be a street vehicle still a nice truck though trust me if ford is bringing it back they will make it able to get dirty. it is after all the bronco
Correct, we want the top to come off, seats that can be washed with the hose, 17 or larger tires, crazy tires and cost about 25-30,000.
I agree……also no AWD. Two wheel drive with front end lock-in capability. True. I don’t want a sissy Bronco……I have a 1979 now & it gets me anywhere I want to go. AND I ain’t afraid to get it muddy. Maybe you should offer 2 models…..the fancy 6 cylinder model for the “City Girls” and a down & dirty V-8 version for the country boys to play in!
if its not a convertible it will be worth nothing! Brocos are famous by 3 things…removable top, short wheel base , and V8 power train to go with it
Will the 2017 Bronco with the big chrome grill be available in a 4door?
I own a 1990 white OJ bronco with removable top…..wouldn’t sell it for anything…..she made the move from San Diego to Asheville, NC pulling a 4000 pound pop up camper….that was 2 years ago and she’s still going strong….130,000 miles….love that damn car
Hey connie ….if you want a 4 Door bronco. …go buy an expedition….duuu
4 door bronco = C150 Centurion
No removable top, no Bronco! I still have my ’94 XLT 5.8L Bronco. People stop me on the street asking if I want to sell it. I have 4 sons that will fight for it when I kick off…
I have plenty that want my 79 also…..daughters included.
I’m so sick of people saying the same thing about these types of vehicles. Ford (or any other car maker) are not into stripped, purpose built, cheap vehicles. For four generations now, mustang fans have been screaming for a stripped “lx” mustang 5.0. You know, one with roll up windows, no computer navigation or blue tooth gizmos. Give me light weight, v8, stripped for $20,000…… Ford is out to make money, do you think they make more money on a platinum f150 with bells and whistles or a base trim v6? When they do make a purpose built model, such as cobra jet, they only make a limited # to make it “exclusive”, then charge crazy prices anyway. As much as I would love to see it, major automakers will NOT make your stripped out cheap model for fringe enthusiasts. They will continue to make the Mustang for yuppie 20-30 year olds and the f150 for the suburban dad who goes to Home Depot once per year. So, this bronco will be designed and marketed for the soccer moms and not the off-roader. Look how watered down & over priced a wrangler is! Face reality people!
Needs to be similar to the Jeep Wrangler!!
I’ve been waiting for the 2-door FULL SIZE SUV to return for years. Bring them back and I’m in! I owned both a full-size, 2-door Bronco (affectionately named “Ed” for the Eddie Bauer edition) and a full-size, 2-door Chevy Tahoe. I now drive a 4-door Yukon and its not the same. If there is a 2-door version brought back to the market within a reasonable price range I will be a happy driver.
