This vehicle is not your regular exciting automobile on 4 wheels, rather the 2016 Ford F-650 is a medium-duty work truck built to perform tasks such as towing, hauling heavy loads and similar tasks. The F-650 is produced in partnership with the Navistar International. The 2016 model will be the second in its generation the first model tracing its debut 14 years back in the year 2000. Ford launched this vehicle’s concept model during the 2014 National Truck Equipment Association Work Truck Show.
The new model will be modified in all quarters from the exterior look, the interior styling all the way to the power-trains. According to reports, the model will be produced in Avon Lake, Ohio as Ford has transferred production of all its medium duty trucks from Mexico.
2016 Ford F-650 Exterior
The 2016 Ford F-650 will be offered in three cab styles i.e. Regular Cab, Crew Cab and Super Cab. Its chassis will be built on a straight framework, tractor and dock model. The exterior of the 2016 F-650 has been completely redesigned and is significantly different from the previous model. Many of its modifications are on the front fascia which features a new hood and large dual-nostril whose design has been adopted from smaller heavy duty trucks.
The front also features a new mesh grille designed for optimal cooling performance. The truck also features PowerScope trailer tow side mirrors, aerodynamic headlights as well as sharp fenders. Behind the cab, the truck is designed to fit custom work applications such as a dump-truck, tow-truck or even an ambulance body.
2016 Ford F-650 Interior
The interior is comfortable for driving. It comes fitted with a rapid-heat cab heater, a 110-volt power outlet as well as multifunctional steering wheel. Other features include Crew Chief fleet management telematics and SYNC which allows hands-free calling, music search, control as well as automatic phonebook download functions.
For safety purposes, the truck features keyless start, panic alarm and a choice of either hydraulic or air brakes.
Engine Specs and Performance
Good news for medium truck lovers. The 2016 Ford F-650 will feature two engine variants one being the automaker’s own 6.7 L Power Stroke V-8 turbo-diesel. This engine also found in Super Duty models has been modified so as to extend their lifespan in hauling conditions.
This engine has been detuned so as to produce 270 hp and 675lb-ft of torque which ranks top among the rest in this class. The engine will also be capable of running on biodiesel fuel. The second engine which runs on petrol is a 6.8 L V 10 unit that produces 362 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque.
The engine comes with a new tweak i.e. it has a capability of converting petrol to liquid propane gas thus providing huge fuel savings.
Price and release date
The automaker has not released an official price as of this day of writing. We however expect the price of the 2016 Ford F-650 to slightly change from the current model’s which retails for $55,595.
This price does not include dump bodies, cargo boxes or flat beds as these are sold separately by different retailers and their price will vary across retailers. No official release date has been conveyed to the public yet but we believe the trucks will hit dealer showrooms before the end of the year.
