Engine and performance

The engines are unchanged. There are two engine options, one gasoline mill and a more powerful diesel power-plant. The gasoline mill is a 6.2 L V-8 that is capable of producing 385 horses and 430 lb-ft of torque. If you feel that you need more power, Ford readily offers you the 6.7 L turbo-diesel V-8 mill that gives you 440 horsepower and an astounding 925 lb-ft of torque. Both mills are mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. RWD is standard but as you would expect, there is an option for AWD.

Models equipped with the diesel mill when fully equipped can tow as much as 18,600 pounds.

Price and release date

Ford is yet to make official the prices of the 2018 Ford F-250 trucks. According to credible sources, the truck will likely hit dealerships in late 2017. Considering not much has changed, expect the automaker to maintain the model’s price almost unchanged. I expect a starting price of around $ 34,000 for the base XL trim with the range-topping Platinum trim will attract in excess of $60,000.

Competition

The roots

This excellence is rooted in Henry Ford’s creative visionary spirit where around 100 years ago he launched the first ever-moving assembly line. The assembly line simplified assembly of the Ford Model T to just 84 steps as the chassis was pulled down the line by a rope. As a result, assembly time for the vehicle’s 3,000 parts reduced from 12 hours to just around 90 minutes. Over the years, Ford went ahead to refine the assembly line to further reduce the labor, time and money needed to manufacture cars. This allowed the automaker to reduce prices of the Model T to $300 from $850. This enabled the masses to afford quality vehicles.

Moving Assembly Line – How it all began

It is often said that Ford associated himself from experts from differ fields such as canning, steel making, and brewing. Each expert would contribute an idea on how to achieve mass production in auto manufacturing. In addition, his visionary leadership qualities helped create an environment where experts collaborated to develop new ideas and contribute innovations that eventually led to the invention of the assembly line. The actual line was launched in 1913, October 7 at the company’s Highland Park Assembly factory. The first assembly line was actually a crude system set in an open space.

The assembly line stretched 150 feet long and had a rope and a winch. The winch dragged the chassis across the floor as 140 assemblers stationed along the line installed parts on the chassis. As a result, assembly time dropped from over 12 hours under the old stationary system to less than three hours which was later refined to 90 minutes as the concept was upgraded. Later in 1914, an endless chain replaced the rope. In essence, the assembly line brought work close to the workers and smoothened differences as faster employees slowed down while slower employees were forced to work harder to keep up with the pace.  The impact was that from producing only 82,388 units of Model T and Touring cars, the automaker produced 585,388 units of Model T in 1916.

Greatest contribution to manufacturing

The invention was not only popular in the automobile industry but also to other manufacturing sectors such as vacuum cleaners, phonographs, refrigerators as well as other consumer goods. 2018 Ford F-150 Police Special Service Vehicle Exterior

Ford has barely altered the exterior of the 2018 Ford F-150 SSV compared to that of the regular models. The only additions that set the SSV from the civilian model are the decals and the lightbar. Ford, however, said that the model features advanced materials that inhibit corrosions, especially under its belly.

Interior

Unlike the civilian models, the SSV does not feature any luxury add-ons such as leather seats, heating on the seats and other luxury trappings. The cabin is very simple to ensure officers concentrate on their duties. On the inside, the truck features a 40/blank/40 vinyl bench seat at the front rather than the 40/20/40 bench on civilian models. This has allowed for extra customization of the cabin.

The standard rear bench and carpets have been replaced with a vinyl bench and also vinyl flooring respectively to ease cleaning up of the SSV. The 2018 Ford F-150 SSV will be offered in only the XL trim and in both SuperCab and SuperCrew body styles.

Engine and performance

The 2018 F-150 Police SSV shares the base engine with the 2018 Expedition SSV. The engine is a twin-turbocharged 3.5 L, EcoBoost V-6. Ford did not reveal whether this engine has been tuned for more power. In civilian models, it produces 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. However, there is an option for a more powerful engine for the truck. The unit is the 5.0 L, V-8. The V-8 is rated at 385 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque in civilian models. The two engines are paired with the automaker’s new ten-speed automatic gearbox. This transmission features an Auto Start-Stop function to help conserve fuel so that taxpayers don’t complain about the police using guzzlers.

The models are available in either RWD or AWD. In addition, the stock alternator on current models has been replaced with a 240-amp alternator that aligns well with the extra onboard electrical power and the need for extended idle times. The gear selector for the model is mounted on the steering column to create more space in the cabin. The automaker has also hooked up the model with a revised electronic limited-slip differential.

Price and release date

During the release of the F-150 SSV and the Expedition SSV, Ford did not announce how much the police and other government agencies would be paying for the upgraded SSVs. The models will be delivered to authorities in the second half of this year.

2018 Ford Escape Exterior

The automaker has revised the exterior design of the Ford Escape to look more stylish. Designers derived inspiration from 2013 Ford Fusion sedan especially for the front fascia. It features a gigantic grille as well as a sportier bumper. New headlights flank the grille. On the sides, the model has aggressive lines compared to the outgoing model.  The 2018 Ford Escape will also be paired with 19-inch alloy wheels.

The final engine is a turbocharged 2.0 L, 4-cylinder EcoBoost mill that produces 245 horses and 275 lb-ft of torque. FWD models return 29mpg while AWD models return 27 mpg on combined drives.

Price and release date

Due to the upgrades, the model’s price will increase slightly. The 2018 Ford Escape will be offered in three trim levels i.e. the S, SE and Titanium trims.  The S trim will have a starting price of around $23,500 while the SE trim will start at around $24,000. The top Titanium trim will fetch around $30,000 before options. Ford will likely display the 2018 Escape at an international Auto Show this summer. Sales in the U.S. will commence in this fall while other markets will receive the model in the first quarter of next year.

2019 Ford Focus Exterior

Although the testing mule was covered in heavy camouflage, we can see the resemblance from the Fiesta. The grille has been shifted towards the center of the fascia while the headlights look slightly revised. Talking of the grille, Ford has retained the corporate two-slat grille. The resemblance is pretty visible on the flanks where the model features a prominent beltline which stretches the entire length of the car. The model also has a sloping roofline that makes it more attractive.

At the rear, the model features faux taillights but these could just be temporary with production models likely to feature two-piece clusters. Overall, the model will likely be wider and longer than the current version.

Interior

We also have photos of the cabin. They reveal a corporate styled cabin characterized by a plain look. However, considering it is way too early before its on-sale date, I believe the cabin is just temporary for testing purposes. The photos also reveal that the model has dropped the traditional manual parking brake lever in favor of an electronic parking unit. It also features a larger display that could be a hint for SYNC3. I believe the model will borrow its styling from the Fiesta. We will update you with more information when it becomes available.

Engine and performance

It is too early to tell the power-trains that Ford will equip the Focus with. However, going by the industry trends, the automaker is likely to discontinue the current naturally aspirated mills for EcoBoost engines. The new base engine even in the U.S. will likely be a 1.0 L, 3-cylinder engine that produces 142 hp. The European market will also get a 1.5 L, mill tuned to produce different levels of output ranging from 150 hp to 200hp.

Later on, the automaker will release the performance-oriented Ford Focus ST. This model will use a revised 2.0 L, EcoBoost mill that will produce over 260 horses. Details about the transmission system are not available as of this writing.

Price and release date

Credible reports reveal that Ford is planning to showcase the model at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show while sales will commence in the second half of 2018. The base model will have a starting price of around $17,000.

Competition

Excellent standard engine

In its standard form, the 2017 Ford Raptor Truck is already fitted with an impressive mill; a twin-turbocharged EcoBoost, 6-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3.5 liters. The most interesting news is their new offer, the VelociRaptor 600 Twin Turbo. This package takes power output to a whopping 605 horses and 622 lb-ft of torque. With all this juice, the truck completes a 0-60 mph run in4.2 seconds. It completes a quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds. These are quite amazing figures for an off-road dedicated truck. This power hike is courtesy of upgraded turbochargers, a new high-flow air induction setup, a stainless steel exhaust setup, dyno testing, ECU upgrade as well as an air-to-air front-mounted intercooler.

The package also comes with special plaques on its cabin and under the hood to show it is not a regular Raptor truck. The model also has a 3 year/36,000-mile warranty. These upgrades come at a $22,500 price tag.

Off-road Stage 1 package

2018 Ford Fiesta ST Engine Specifications

2018 Ford Mustang Exterior

From all directions, it looks like a Mustang; however, a closer look reveals the several changes made on the exterior design. Most of the new changes are to be found at the front fascia.  The grille is new but almost similar to the one on the outgoing model. Ford has added a trapezoid-shaped opening below the grille.

The black fog lights openings have been replaced with aggressive, triangular cutouts and slim vertical vents. All-LED headlights whose outer corners point downwards flank the grille. At the rear, changes are less dramatic. The tri-bar taillights on the previous model have been revised. There is also a new diffuser and a new license plate recess. There are three new exterior paint works to choose from, they are Kona Blue, Royal Crimson and Orange Furry. In addition, the automaker has added twelve new wheel designs.

2018 Ford Mustang Interior

Unlike the exterior, the interior did not get many changes. Ford has however added hand-stitched seat wrappings with attractive contrast stitching as well as padded knee bolsters. The seats have been restyled and feature new color choices and patterns.  The model’s bezels, door handles and rings have an aluminum finish for a premium look. Ford has added a Mustang badge on the new model’s instrument panel. Both models have an option for a heated steering wheel.

Tech-wise, the model gets a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. The screen can be customized to correspond to the model’s Track, Sport and Normal modes. The power increase is courtesy of the automaker’s dual-fuel, high-pressure direct fuel injection as well as low-pressure port fuel injection. This also results in improved fuel economy. The automaker has also upgraded the manual gearbox to handle the increased power. On the V-8, the gearbox will feature a dual-mass flywheel and a twin-clutch for better clutch modulation and better torque capability. Ford has however introduced the new 10-speed automatic system that is available for both mills.  The system provides quicker shift times, less frictional losses and improved low-speed response.

Price and release date

I don’t expect the price of the Mustang to increase significantly. However, since the V-6 has been discontinued, expect the base price to be more expensive. The base EcoBost model currently starts at $26,195. The 2018 Mustang price will likely have a starting price of $27,000 while the EcoBoost Premium will attract around $33,000. More information will be available close to the model’s on-sale release date in the second half of this year.

Competition

The 2018 Ford Mustang competes with the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger. However, the Mustang is getting ever closer to the BMW M4 Series and it is a matter of time before the Mustang goes head to head with the Beemer.
