The market for SUVs in China is growing at a rapid rate. During the first half of this year alone, over 4.96 million SUVs have been sold in China. To take advantage of this development, Ford has designed a new SUV specifically for the Chinese market. Dubbed the “ 2019 Ford Territory CN ”, the model will join other SUVs the automaker sells in the country such as the Explorer, Edge, Everest, Kuga, and EcoSport. The mid-sized SUV is developed jointly with Jiangling Motors Corp, a locally based automaker. The 2019 Ford Territory CN will slot between the Kuga and EcoSport models. The Territory is based on a midsized Jiangling SUV, the Yusheng S330. The 2019 Ford Territory CN SUV will be powered by three engines, a petrol mill and two hybrid engines.
2019 Ford Territory CN Exterior and interior
In terms of size, the new 2019 Ford Territory CN has a length of 4,580 mm long, width of 1,936 mm wide and is 1,674 mm tall. Its wheelbase stretches 2,716 mm long. Although we are yet to get the full specs of the new SUV, it features among others full-LED headlights and LED DRLs that are also used as turn signals. The Territory rides on 18-inch alloy wheels; it also has a panoramic sunroof.
Inside, the Territory has an all-blacked-out cabin with leather upholstery as standard. The interior also features Ford’s infotainment system that is managed via two huge touchscreens (a 10-inch digital unit and a high-definition LCD screen). The instrument panel is an HD, LCD screen with three themes.Co-Pilot360 and FordPass Connect are standard. The FordPass Connect offers 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and enables the driver to access various functions such as remote lock/unlock, remote start, remote parking as well as vehicle locator.
On the other hand, the Co-Pilot360 is a suite of driver-assist technologies that enhance the SUV’s safety; they include Pre-Collision Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Information System, Forward Collision Warning, Active Park Assist, and Lane Departure Warning. Overall, the cabin is very clean and I hope Ford will consider offering similar styling in the U.S.A.
Engine and performance
As revealed above, the 2019 Ford Territory CN will have a petrol engine and hybrid drivetrains. Although we are yet to get the exact tidbits of the engine, it is highly likely that the model will use the same mills as the Yusheng S330. The S330 features a turbocharged 1.5 L, engine that produces 163 hp. In regards to hybrid engines, there will be two drivetrains, a 45-volt mild-hybrid, as well as a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. Specific details of the drivetrains will be released later.
Price and release date
Ford will start selling the 2019 Ford Territory early next year in China. As for the price, the SUV could cost slightly more than the Yusheng S330. The automaker may also decide to sell the model in other expanding markets in Asia. Ford plans to sell over 50 brands in China by 2025 and the new Ford Territory is one of the early models meant to fulfill this strategy.
