The Ka Plus has been quite successful in developed markets and in Europe such that Ford has decided to offer a crossover version of the model. Although Ford terms it a crossover, it is actually a 2019 Ford Ka+ hatchback with a raised ride height and a rugged exterior stance. Christened the 2019 Ford Ka Plus Active, the crossover is made with the European market in mind. With the crossover, the automaker has followed the same strategy applied to the Fiesta lineup. Ideally, the Ka+ Active is meant to add an aggressive flavor to the rather bland Ka Plus brand.
2019 Ford Ka Plus Active Exterior
As said above, this is not a real crossover but a lifted hatchback with an increased ride height of (23 mm better than the standard Ka+). The model also has a more rugged look to differentiate it from the standard KA+ hatch. It has a new grille-mounted much higher than on the Ka+; its headlights are also larger and they appear to sweep along the car’s lines. The model also features standard fog lights and DRLs. There is an option for a chrome surround on the lights. The front and rear bumpers give the model a leaner, angrier look. The crossover also features roof rails to accommodate more cargo. It rides on 15-inch alloy wheels.
Interior
The 2019 Ka+ Active offers more comfort and convenience compared to the standard Ka Plus hatchback. Inside, the instrument panel has a grain finish and flaunts a SYNC 3 system for enhanced communication and entertainment. There is also a 6.5-inch touch-screen that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The steering which is wrapped in leather also features switches for cruise control.
The crossover also offers powered mirrors and front windows as well as remote central locking. There is also push-button start. Other features include automatic sensors that switch on the headlights as dusk falls and the wipers when it starts to rain. There is an option for a heated windscreen and heated front seats for buyers living in chilly environments.
For safety, Ford has offered a hill start assist, active rollover prevention, active stability control, tire-pressure monitoring system, reverse parking assistance and 6 airbags. There is also a speed control function for new drivers or those with young kids.
Compared to the standard hatchback, the Ka+ Active crossover provides more passenger and cargo space.
Engine and performance
There are petrol and diesel engine options to choose from. The engines also feature the stop-start technology to enhance fuel economy. There is a new 1.2 L engine in two states of tune. The lower output level is rated at 69 hp and 105 Nm of torque while the higher level of output is rated at 84 hp and 112Nm of torque. There is also a 1.5 L, TDCi diesel mill that is good for 95PS and160 lb-ft of torque. Both engines use an upgraded 5-speed manual system.
Ford has also refined the model’s chassis tuning, hooked the model with a wider track, front anti-roll bars and enhanced tuning for dampers for a better ride, especially on rough terrain.
